Accident Reconstruction Was Key to Disproving Gas Company Liability

Summary:

Legal Arts produced several demonstrative exhibits for the defense that focused on two primary issues: demonstrating how plaintiff and defense reconstruction theories differed and photographic evidence that supported the defense theory and refuted plaintiff’s theory.

Plaintiff’s accident reconstruction expert opined that the driver was attempting a routine U-turn when she turned too wide, hopped the curb, and struck a glancing blow to one of the bollards with the right-front fender before the vehicle impacted the block wall and stopped. This blow knocked the bollard sideways into the gas main, causing a leak and subsequent fire, which engulfed the vehicle, killing the driver.
