Supplier Breached Contract with E. coli-tainted Hamburger Patties

Summary:

The processing of meat from “farm to fork” was concentrated on the
hamburger patty processing plant operated by the defendant. This fly-
through animation was built from scratch from incomplete source material.

In the wake of several injuries and deaths caused by hamburgers tainted with E. coli O157:H7, and subsequent business losses, plaintiff fast food restaurant chain sought to recover damages from the company that supplied the defective product. After CDC research pinpointed the source of contamination to raw beef processed by defendant meat supplier, plaintiff alleged that the supplier breached its contract to provide food that was safe, wholesome, and fit for human consumption.
